Investigative Reporting student produces video on how brain development impacts jail sentences for juveniles

By Julie Pawlikowski, second year graduate assistant in the Media Management program

Are we more than our brains? If the human brain is not actually fully developed by the time society expects it to be, how responsible should adolescents be held for their actions? These are the questions senior multiplatform journalism major Emalee Sekely asked when the Investigative Reporting course began to explore the topic of juveniles sentenced to life in prison. Sekely interviewed Jane Moriarty, Duquesne University law professor and expert in criminal justice and brain development, about the topic and produced a comprehensive video.
