Complete your Student Evaluation Surveys (SES) by midnight 12/5

By Julie Pawlikowski, second year graduate student in the Media Management program

The Student Evaluation Surveys (SES) is the official instructor course evaluation used at Duquesne University. An SES is made available to students near the end of every semester for most courses in which students are enrolled. Students receive email notifications when an SES becomes available and the SES is accessed via a link within the email notification or through the “My Surveys / SES” tab within Blackboard. All SES is confidential and anonymous; faculty will not see results until after the semester is over and final grades have been submitted. The final deadline is tonight, Dec. 5, by midnight.

By completing the SES, students can help their teachers improve and help the students that come after them.

“At Duquesne University, we ask you to evaluate each course you take for two simple reasons,” said Provost Tim Austin. “First, your instructor needs to know where she or he is succeeding and where she or he might consider making changes; right now, you are well equipped to provide that information. Second, in judging a faculty member’s performance, both annually and when she or he applies for promotion, her or his colleagues and supervisors really do pay careful attention to these student evaluations.

“This is one way in which you can significantly affect the education of future Duquesne students. Please take the time to respond thoughtfully – the students who come after you will be grateful that you did.”

Jacques Hinkson-Compton, a second year graduate student in the Digital Media Arts program, offers the student viewpoint of SES. ” As a student, it is always in your best interest to let your professors know how they can improve on their classes and how the courses can help you achieve your goals,” said Hinkson-Compton. “Additionally, it also lets them know how much you appreciate them. Even professors need some encouragement.”

Don’t forget to fill out your SES. Your professors and their future students will thank you.
